Football FAQ’s – 2022 Flag Season
What is the registration fee for FLAG?
The registration fee for FLAG is $65
What age groups are eligible to play FLAG?
Our FLAG Program is only for 5 and 6 year old children……those children who are 5 or 6 and who will NOT turn 7 before December 1st of this year.
If there is a child who is going to turn 7 before December 1st and is afraid to play tackle, please contact us at football@mineolapal.org.or at 516-408-5720.
How are the teams organized?
Our FLAG Program is an in house league where depending on registration, we will form a number of teams that will play each other. Depending on the registration numbers and to get some variety there is the possibility of playing some other local FLAG programs.
We typically organize the teams based on where the children goes to school or the town they are from but again depends on the # of children registered and where they come from. We try our best to accommodate letting friends play on the same FLAG team but it is not always possible as we need to have the same or similar number of players on each team.
When does the FLAG season start?
We typically email the parents at the end of August / beginning of September to outline the start of the season. We look to set up a meeting to organize the teams and take any requests and also register any additional kids who might have just heard about the FLAG Program.
The first practice will typically take place one or two weeks after Labor Day on a Monday.
When and where are the practices?
Practices are on Mondays starting 1 or 2 weeks after LABOR Day and will run until the end of the season, which is typically the first or second week of November. The practices start at 6:30 pm or 7:00 pm depending on the coach and run for about 1 hour. Mondays are when the tackle program cannot practice so that is when the FLAG Program practices.
The practices will be held at the fields by the Mineola PAL Field House located at the corner of Willis Ave & 2nd Street – the white building behind 110 Willis Avenue, Mineola 11501.
When and where are the games played?
All of the FLAG games will be played at Hampton Field / Hampton Street School in Mineola.
All of the games will have a start time of 9:00 am on Sundays starting in mid-September and will run for 1 hour. The season ends the first or second week of November.
Directions to the field are as follows:
If you are headed south on Roslyn Road from Jericho Turnpike, make a left on Westbury Avenue (which is the first traffic light after you pass over Jericho Turnpike headed south), then make a right on Union….go down two blocks (you will see Hampton Field on the right).
If coming from the South, take Old Country Road to Washington Ave. Head north on Washington to Second St. Make a right on Second Street and go to Union Street. Make a left on Union Street and Hampton Field is on the left.
Do I need any equipment to play?
No – the players just need plastic molded cleats. We supply you with a T-Shirt and the Flags and will give the coaches the footballs for the practices and the games.
Can I coach?
Yes – we welcome any parent that wants to coach. The FLAG Program is instructional – its about teaching the kids football but really it’s about letting them run around and get an idea of what the game of football is all about.
